Senior Project Accountant

Project Accountant
We are supporting a UK-based, mission-led organisation in the appointment of a Project Accountant to join a growing finance function supporting UK and international projects.
Key responsibilities

Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, prepayments, and journals in line with Charity SORP (FRS 102)

Prepare management accounts, statutory reporting, and budget-versus-actual (BvA) reporting for internal stakeholders and funders

Own grant accounting, including tracking and reporting of restricted and unrestricted funds

Manage multi-currency accounting for international projects, including FX conversions and variance analysis

Create and manage project and grant budgets, supporting forecasting and financial planning

Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring timely payments and accurate income recognition

Prepare and submit VAT returns within a charity environment

Lead audit preparation and act as a key contact for external auditors

Maintain oversight of project-related banking activity and support effective internal controls

Support UK payroll and coordinate with international payroll providers as required
Skills & experience
-
Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field

ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified or part-qualified
-
4+ years’ experience in a charity, not-for-profit, or public accounting environment

Experience working with grants, donor funding, and international programmes
-
Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting systems (e.g. QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar)

Highly organised, detail-oriented, and confident working across multiple stakeholders
