MI Select is supporting a leading UK specialist motor insurer with the appointment of a Senior Underwriter – Motor Innovation.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced motor underwriting professional to step into a highly visible role focused on underwriting strategy, product development, broker engagement and portfolio performance.
The business operates in the specialist motor market and works closely with broker partners to deliver tailored insurance propositions for customers whose needs sit outside standard motor insurance. The role will suit someone who understands the technical detail of specialist motor underwriting, but who also enjoys working commercially across product, pricing, technology and distribution.
The role
As Senior Underwriter – Motor Innovation, you will play a key role in the execution of underwriting strategy and the ongoing development of underwriting appetite across specialist motor products.
You will work closely with internal teams including pricing, product, technology and operations, helping to translate specialist underwriting knowledge into clear, practical rules and frameworks that support profitable growth.
The role is also highly market-facing, involving regular broker contact, communication of underwriting strategy, review of existing relationships and support with broader market development.
Key responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Supporting the development and execution of underwriting strategy across specialist motor products
- Helping to shape underwriting appetite, rules and decision-making frameworks
- Working closely with pricing, technology, product and operational teams
- Using market knowledge and technical expertise to support sustainable, profitable growth
- Reviewing portfolio performance and identifying areas for improvement
- Engaging with broker partners to communicate strategy and support relationship performance
- Supporting the development of propositions that meet the needs of the specialist motor market
- Contributing to short and medium-term financial plans through strong underwriting discipline
- Ensuring underwriting insight is translated into practical, implementable actions
The successful candidate
We are looking for someone with strong technical underwriting experience in the motor insurance market, ideally with exposure to specialist motor products.
You will need to be comfortable working across both technical and commercial areas, with the confidence to engage brokers and internal stakeholders.
