Bespoke Motor Underwriter – Overview
We are working with a specialist motor insurer to appoint a Bespoke Motor Underwriter to join their London-based team.
This role focuses on underwriting complex and non-standard motor risks, working closely with broker partners to structure and price cases that fall outside standard rating models. It offers strong exposure to specialist risks and the opportunity to develop deep technical underwriting expertise within a supportive environment.
The Role
As a Bespoke Motor Underwriter, you will be responsible for assessing and underwriting a range of complex motor risks, including modified, imported, and specialist vehicles.
You will work closely with brokers to understand client requirements, apply underwriting judgement, and deliver tailored insurance solutions that balance risk and commercial opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite complex and non-standard motor risks in line with underwriting guidelines
- Assess risk and determine appropriate pricing for bespoke cases
- Work closely with brokers to structure tailored insurance solutions
- Build and maintain strong trading relationships with broker partners
- Support the development of underwriting appetite for specialist risks
- Monitor portfolio performance and identify areas for improvement
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal governance requirements
- Contribute to a high-performance underwriting culture
About You
- Experience in motor underwriting, ideally within bespoke or specialist risks
- Exposure to modified, imported, classic, or high-value vehicle underwriting (desirable)
- Strong understanding of underwriting principles and risk selection
- Good commercial awareness and ability to balance risk and reward
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with brokers
- Keen to develop technical underwriting expertise within a specialist environment
Salary & Benefits
- £30,000 – £45,000 + 12% bonus
