Overview
We are supporting a leading Lloyd’s syndicate in the appointment of a Portfolio Underwriting Manager to join their Fleet team.
This is a highly analytical role, focused on portfolio performance, pricing insight, and underwriting strategy within the fleet insurance space.
The position offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced fleet underwriter to transition into a more strategic role, with a clear progression route into product and portfolio leadership.
The Role
You will be responsible for analysing and improving the performance of the fleet portfolio, working closely with Pricing, Product, and Analytics teams.
Rather than focusing on individual case underwriting, this role centres on understanding trends, identifying opportunities, and influencing underwriting strategy to support sustainable, profitable growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse fleet portfolio performance, including loss trends, pricing effectiveness, and segment profitability
- Identify patterns and emerging trends to support strategic decision-making
- Work with Pricing teams to refine rating approaches and improve pricing accuracy
- Support the development and evolution of underwriting appetite
- Contribute to product development through insight and market understanding
- Monitor portfolio performance against financial targets and recommend improvements
- Translate technical underwriting knowledge into practical portfolio strategies
- Collaborate across underwriting, pricing, and product functions
About You
- 5 to 10 years’ experience in underwriting, ideally within fleet or motor insurance
- Strong understanding of fleet risks and portfolio dynamics
- Experience or exposure to portfolio analysis, pricing, or performance management
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret and apply data
- Interest in moving into a more strategic, less transactional role
- Strong communication skills and ability to work across teams
