From Artificial to Meaningful Intelligence – A Reflection on Leadership in the Age of AI

Skill button and seat belt in a palm

Whilst I’m flattered to see my initials appearing across social and professional platforms—and I fully embrace the rise of AI—I’d like to take a moment to give a big shoutout to JM @James Munro for his outstanding client engagement since our launch in 2024. Top work, James!

Now, back to the topic at hand.

Let’s be honest—“Artificial Intelligence” isn’t the most inspiring phrase. Don’t just take my word for it, #GoogleIt: “made, produced, or done by humans, especially to seem like something natural.”

You might say, “Hold on, that’s out of context!” And you’d be right—but hear me out.

As the business world races to define how best to deploy this powerful new tool, perhaps it’s time we pause and reflect. Let’s not forget: we created this. It starts with us. #MeaningfulIntelligence #MI

If we’re going to drive this change, we need to steer it with both hands. That means more than just adopting new tools—it means taking responsibility for how we integrate them. But what does that really look like?

At MI Select, we regularly speak with senior leaders from some of the world’s top companies. We learn not only how they’re implementing AI into their operations, but also how they’re thinking ahead—carefully planning their next move and evaluating how future opportunities align with their leadership goals.

The good news? There’s a clear pattern.
The better news? It’s no secret.

Most leaders are laser-focused on process automation and efficiency. They’re embedding AI into nearly every function and strengthening communication across departments. In some areas, AI takes the wheel. In others, we remain in the driver’s seat while AI supports from the front—helping ensure a smoother, more efficient journey.

But here’s the real question: how are these leaders managing the bumps in the road? How are they reassuring teams who may be understandably concerned about being replaced?

The best leaders are educating. The most forward-thinking organisations are enabling agility and adaptability.

As processes evolve, so too will roles. Embracing change is essential—but so is upskilling. Diversifying your capabilities is your seatbelt for the journey ahead—and your seat at the table in the years to come.
