The Role
We are seeking a Legal Counsel with around 5 years of experience to join the UK team in their London office. This is a wide-ranging legal role, requiring a proactive and hands-on professional to support the company across multiple legal areas. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the UK credit and financial services sector, experience working in both in-house (client-side) and private practice (service provider-side), and expertise in regulatory compliance, contract negotiation, and risk management.
Key Responsibilities
Contract Review & Negotiation: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including commercial agreements, third-party partnerships, NDAs, vendor contracts, and financial services agreements.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the company’s operations comply with UK financial regulations, particularly in credit, lending, and consumer protection laws.
Corporate Governance & Risk Management: Provide legal guidance on corporate governance, operational risks, and internal policies to safeguard the company’s interests.
GDPR & Data Protection: Advise on GDPR compliance and data privacy matters, ensuring robust data protection policies are in place.
Employment & HR Legal Matters: Support HR in employment law compliance, dispute resolution, and internal investigations.
Litigation & Dispute Resolution: Assist in managing litigation, arbitration, and regulatory investigations, working closely with external counsel when necessary.
Collaborate with risk, compliance, finance, and operations teams to ensure legal best practices across the organisation.
Requirements
Minimum 5 years of legal experience, preferably in both in-house and private practice roles.
UK-qualified solicitor or legal professional with relevant financial services experience.
Strong knowledge of UK financial services law, especially credit and lending regulations.
Experience with contract review and negotiation across various legal areas.
Hands-on approach, able to work independently and manage multiple legal issues simultaneously.
Expertise in GDPR and data protection laws.
Knowledge of employment law and corporate governance is an advantage.
